Boy in new wheelchair at the Mexico distribution

Puerto Vallarta Wheelchair Distribution

Cesar was the first child in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to receive a ROC Wheels Cub Chair. He, his mother and sister were overjoyed to be the recipients of such a wonderful gift, mobility. His sister was asked to share a few words on video, but she was overwhelmed with emotion, so happy for her little brother, she knew she would breakdown and could not speak.

Customized Chairs

The first thing we noticed when we arrived is that ROC Wheels isn’t providing just an ordinary wheelchair. These are thoughtful, and highly engineered adaptive mobility devices. They’re designed for a precise customized fit for each child. Maybe more importantly, the chairs enhance the ability of the family to care for their child and to live more fully.

Child receiving a chair

As parents, it touched us how evident it was that the families cared so much for their child. They were deeply touched that someone else cared enough to come help them. And although we had no special skills, being parents ourselves gave us the instinct to want to jump in and help. When helping with fitting, we were surprised to see the transformation when a family member pushed their child around the room for the first time, and then we realized the impact the chair would have on their lives.

Fitting a child into a chair means giving a family the gift of better health, lifestyle, and connection to their community. It’s also clear that we’re providing a safer existence for the child and caregivers. Finally, we learned that when you support ROC Wheels; you aren’t simply buying a wheelchair. The donation is also supporting a dedicated team committed to the complicated logistics of successfully delivering and fitting a chair to a child in need!

More Than A Chair

The ROC Wheels team met Miranda with her grandparents, who have raised her. Miranda is an attentive little girl that has lived with limitations due to not having mobility. Her grandmother Julia shared with the ROC Wheels team members that these limitations will change with the gift of the wheelchair. Julia stated that Miranda’s grandfather will transport her more easily. No longer will they have to leave her alone at home while they go to pick up Miranda’s big sister from school. Her grandparents are so grateful because Miranda will be more comfortable. Now Miranda can go to school herself and explore the world around her.
